01Scope

Scope

Company Town is a documentary channel on YouTube, published at @company-town (channel ID UCnVTdIM0LHFoYBddeyrLEYg). Episodes are uploaded and monitored using an internal tool built for that channel and operated by a single person.

That tool is not a product. It has no public users, no sign-up, no accounts, and no third-party users. It works only with the channel’s own account, on the channel’s own videos. It does not access, collect, or store any other person’s YouTube data.

This policy therefore describes a narrow set of data: what this site sees when you visit it, and what the internal tool holds about the channel’s own videos.

02This site

This website

This is a static website. Every page is a plain HTML file. There is no database, no login, no comment form, no contact form, and no JavaScript.

Specifically, this site:

  • sets no cookies of any kind, including no analytics or advertising cookies;
  • runs no analytics — no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no pixels, no beacons;
  • loads no third-party resources — no hosted fonts, scripts, stylesheets, embeds, or images from other domains;
  • writes nothing to local storage or session storage;
  • collects no name, email address, or other information from you, because there is nothing here to submit.

Links to YouTube and to Google are ordinary links. Nothing loads from those services until you choose to follow a link, at which point the privacy policy of the site you land on applies.

Hosting logs

The pages have to be served by someone. This site is hosted by Cloudflare Pages, which, like essentially all web hosts, may record standard server request logs — IP address, timestamp, requested file, user agent, referring page — for security and operational purposes. Those logs are generated and retained by the host under its own policies and retention schedule; they are not read, exported, analysed, profiled, or combined with anything else, and they are not used to identify visitors.

03YouTube

YouTube data

The internal publishing tool described above uses YouTube API Services.

By using YouTube API Services, that tool is bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and anyone using it agrees to be bound by them:

Google’s handling of any information it receives is governed by the Google Privacy Policy linked above.

What the tool accesses

The tool authenticates to a single YouTube account — the account that owns the Company Town channel — using OAuth 2.0, and works only within that account. Through the YouTube Data API and the YouTube Analytics and Reporting APIs it:

  • uploads the channel’s own finished episodes to the channel’s own account (videos.insert), together with the title, description, tags, thumbnail, category, visibility setting, and the altered-or-synthetic-content disclosure for each episode;
  • reads back the metadata of those same videos — processing and upload status, publication state, and the fields it just set — to confirm an upload landed correctly;
  • reads back aggregate analytics for those same videos, such as views, watch time, and retention, as reported by YouTube to the channel owner.

What the tool does not do

  • It does not access any channel or video other than its own.
  • It does not collect, store, or process the personal data of viewers, subscribers, or commenters.
  • It does not offer accounts to anyone, and no one else can sign in to it.
  • It does not sell, rent, share, or transfer YouTube data to anyone, and it does not use YouTube data for advertising or ad targeting.
  • It does not combine YouTube data with data from any other source.

Revoking access

Access granted to this tool — or to any application — can be revoked at any time from the Google security settings page: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions (also reachable at https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions).

Revoking access immediately stops the tool from reading or writing anything through the YouTube API. Data already stored by the tool is handled as set out in Data deletion below.

04Deletion

Data deletion

What is stored

The tool stores, on private infrastructure controlled by the operator:

  • An OAuth authorization token for the channel’s own Google account, so uploads can run without signing in each time. It is stored encrypted at rest and is never shared.
  • Episode metadata for the channel’s own videos — video IDs, titles, descriptions, tags, upload and publication timestamps, and processing status — kept as a record of what was published.
  • Aggregate analytics for the channel’s own videos — view counts, watch time, retention, and similar channel-level statistics.
  • Application logs recording that an upload or read succeeded or failed, for debugging.

No viewer data, no commenter data, no subscriber identities, and no data belonging to any other channel is stored, because none is ever requested.

How long it is kept

Retention follows the limits set by the YouTube API Services Developer Policies:

  • Authorization tokens are kept only as long as they are needed to operate the channel, and are deleted when the tool stops being used or when access is revoked.
  • Video and channel statistics and analytics may be kept for as long as they are needed to run the channel; the authorization they were obtained under is revalidated at least every 30 days, and the data is deleted if that authorization is no longer valid.
  • All other API data is kept for no longer than 30 calendar days, after which it is deleted or refreshed from the API.
  • Application logs are retained for no longer than 30 days and then deleted.

How to have data deleted

Anyone can request deletion of data held by this tool, and the channel owner can request deletion of all of it, by emailing info@companytown.co with the word “deletion” in the subject line. No account is needed to make a request.

Requests are honoured within 7 calendar days of receipt, in line with the Developer Policies. Deletion covers stored copies and, where they exist, backups, on the next backup rotation.

Access can also be revoked directly and at any time at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions; when authorization is withdrawn, the stored token is invalidated and the data obtained under it is deleted.

Deleting data held by this tool does not delete anything held by YouTube or Google. Data held in the YouTube account itself is managed through YouTube and Google — see the Google Privacy Policy.

05Third parties

Third-party content and advertising

Neither this website nor the internal tool allows third parties to serve content or advertisements. There are no ad networks, no sponsored placements, and no embedded third-party widgets on this site.

YouTube itself may show advertising against videos on the Company Town channel. That is YouTube’s doing, on YouTube’s platform, under Google’s policies, and no data from it flows back into this site or the tool beyond the aggregate channel statistics described above.

06Devices

Information on your device

Neither this website nor the internal tool stores, accesses, or collects information on or from your device, and neither permits any third party to do so. No cookies, no local storage, no device or advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting.

07Terms

Terms of use

The internal publishing tool uses YouTube API Services. By using it, its operator agrees to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.

This website is provided as an informational description of the Company Town channel and its production. Nothing on it is a warranty or an offer.

08Changes

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address and the effective date at the top will be updated. Material changes to what is collected or how long it is kept will be described rather than quietly folded in.
